General
What is the FitLife?
The FitLife is a total face mask that is used to deliver Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) to patients (more than 66 pounds or 30 kilos) in the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). It is an alternative to traditional full-face masks, sealing around the perimeter of the face where patients have less pressure sensitivity and smoother facial contours. The FitLife total face mask comes in two sizes, small and large, which simplifies mask selection and speeds set up by fitting a wide range of patients with these two sizes.
How does it work?
The FitLife relies on a soft cushion that gently seals around the perimeter of the face, avoiding the need to seal at the nasal bridge. Thus, the seal is immediately effective, requiring fewer adjustments to obtain a leak-free fit.
How does the FitLife compare to other total face mask products?
The FitLife is somewhat unique compared to other traditional full-face masks on the market, because it covers the perimeter of the face. When compared to the Respironics Total Face Mask, it covers less facial area, provides headgear clips, is quieter, and is available in two sizes.
Are there any limitations on using the FitLife?
No, the FitLife can be used with all of our devices, including REMstar Systems with A-Flex, C-Flex, BiPAP Pro Systems with Bi-Flex, and REMstar Auto-CPAP systems.
What information comes with the FitLife?
The FitLife total face mask includes an instruction manual. Inserted in the instruction manual are a registration card and a replacement reminder card and sticker that can help track and manage supply replacement cycles.
Is it possible to read or watch TV with the FitLife?
Yes, the low-profile design and clear line of sight of the FitLife make it perfect for reading or watching television before going to sleep.
Is the FitLife quiet?
The exhalation ports located on the front of the interface make the FitLife exceptionally quiet. The ports are specifically designed to disperse air for a quiet flow of exhalation. Our trial participants were very impressed by the low level of noise created by the diffusion ports, particularly when compared to similar competitive products.
Putting on and adjusting the mask
How do I place the mask on my face? How do I adjust the mask or correct any leaks?
This Web site provides several tools to help you size and adjust the FitLife total face mask, as well as correct any leaks. Click on one of the following links for easy access to these tools:
Headgear
How do I know if the FitLife headgear is on correctly, particularly in the dark?
There are two easy ways to identify if the headgear is on correctly. First, feel the top strap. If the headgear is on properly, you will be able to feel the attachment tab on the right side of the top strap. Second, feel the center of the back strap. If the headgear is on properly, you will be able to feel the logos on the outside of the back strap.
What is the purpose of the two colors on the FitLife headgear?
The black and blue colors will help you correctly attach the headgear and will enable you to quickly determine if they are assembled correctly. In addition, the different colors will help you identify if any of the straps are twisted while putting on the interface. When worn properly, the black fabric will rest against your skin and the blue fabric will be visible on the outside.
Cushion
Is the cushion replaceable?
The FitLife cushion has been designed to be permanently attached to the mask, so it cannot be replaced. If it becomes worn, contact your homecare provider.
Tubing management
Can I use standard CPAP tubing with the FitLife?
Yes, the interface is designed to work with standard 6-foot CPAP tubing. However, for a lighter weight choice, use our Performance Tubing. Traditional tubing can sometimes pull on the mask, especially if the tubing falls off of the bed and the weight of the tubing pulls on the interface. The Performance Tubing is 20% lighter than traditional tubing and is many times more flexible. It provides a more forgiving connection to the device, since it is less likely to apply pull or torque to the mask and disrupt the seal.
Cleaning
How often should I clean the FitLife?
For best results, the mask and tubing must be cleaned daily. The headgear should be cleaned weekly.
How should I wash the FitLife?
The user?s manual included with the FitLife contains detailed cleaning instructions. Be sure to thoroughly clean the mask and cushion using a mild dishwashing detergent (avoid using bleach, alcohol, strong household cleaners and avoid products using conditioners or moisturizers). The headgear can be machine or hand washed with a standard laundry detergent.
